The short version, as I understand it
- Estrogen tends to ramp up histamine release.
- Progesterone helps calm it down.
- So during the stretches when the balance between them shifts (around ovulation and just before my period), my bucket fills up faster.
What I started doing
- I note the day of my cycle alongside my symptoms — the pattern became clear within a few months.
- During the sensitive windows, I keep things simple with food and don't push myself too hard.
- I no longer panic when a day is harder "for no reason" — more often than not, the reason is hormonal.
Just knowing this pattern exists gave me back a lot of my sense of control.
A practical trick: I mark the more sensitive windows of the month on my calendar. A few days ahead, I simplify my food in advance and avoid planning new meals or risky outings — I give myself some margin, so a hard day doesn't catch me off guard.
Please note: this is my own personal experience, not medical advice. For anything hormonal, talk to your doctor.
